Intore is the one of Rwanda’s most longest established musical traditions, an art form was refined over centuries in the courts of the Rwandan Mwami (kings). Here two young men, wearing grass wigs and carrying spears, perform the ‘Dance of Heroes’ component of the dance. Traditionally this part of the dance is performed by returning warriors, celebrating victory in battle. Intore is very graceful, complex and powerful. It is not always easy to find a performance but it is a must see for every visitor to Rwanda.
