Mixing Molasses, Butare, Rwanda

Molasses being used as an agricultural fertiliser at a coffee plantation in southern Rwanda. The strong sun, rich colour and viscosity of the molasses against the white containers make the shot. This image communicates something of the essential manual nature of cash crop agriculture in developing countries.

This is obviously a close up (35cm from subject – the limits of my lens). Vary your shots, it’s always good to inject detail shots into photography assignments, even the occasional macro shot.
